Choosing 'better' is to emotionally go downstream, to go 'happier'.
Choosing 'worse' is to go against that emotional current and to go upstream.
I had a funny moment this morning while writing my Morning Pages. I was all torqued up about something, and then had the above thought, something that comes from the Abraham teachings. After my Eureka! moment, I let go of whatever it was I was wrangling with and thought of something nicer, something more downstream and immediately felt better, could take deeper breaths, relaxed. And at that moment the Alison Kraus song "Down to the River to Pray" started playing on the Starbucks' PA system :-) The words were pertinent:
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown?
Good Lord show me the way!
The resonances about the river, the good ol' way, and being shown the way were, to say, a bit electric for me in that moment.
