What dream are you dreaming about your world?
Do you dream a wonderful, sensual, beautiful, harmonious world?
Or do you dream about violence, death, shootings, murder, mayhem?
I've stopped watching TV.
I've stopped reading the newspaper except for the comics and the horoscope.
I don't listen to Public Radio much anymore, either.
Those sources peddle Bad Dreams. They show me the nightmare, the underbelly, the awful dream I may have once a year, but they show those dreams all the time.
The world is abundant and loving. It's unequivocal, to be sure, but not evil.
By reading, hearing, seeing these bad dreams, we absorb them. We also create in the outside world what is inside our minds. Think not? Where do buildings come from? Where do humongous SUV's come from? Why do handguns exist? Why did we go to the trouble of designing and building better handguns instead of spending time to design and build better solar electric panels?
Here's the world as I dream it:
Permaculture yards that are harmonious with the earth and with our understanding of complicated, layered ecosystems that exist in nature. Read Gaia's Garden to see an oasis of a yard built in harsh desert.
Solar panels producing power to feed back into the grid from each house. Just like I saw in the Black Forest on roofs of barns that are hundreds of years old.
Photoelectric paint.
Microhydro plants - maybe one in each gutter downspout. If you grew up in Central Florida like I did, the amount of water falling from roof-level during a short but horrendous thunderstorm multiplied by millions of homes would be an enormous amount of power generated.
Contra-flow heat exchangers in sinks and tubs to re-collect the heat from water the water that drains out.
People helping other people. People spending time to harness the earth instead of squabbling over it.
People learning how to be healers.
People expecting the best of their neighbors instead of the worst.
Schools that teach logic, schools that teach courses in How To Get Along, How to Resolve Conflict, How to Negotiate Peacefully.
Schools that teach us that we are indeed one with the earth around us, the animals and people on it; what harm we do to it we do to ourselves.
There have been those who've made inroads: da Vinci, Al-Jazari (brilliant thirteenth century Islamic inventor who made water-moving devices that were automatic and moved under their own water power even as they moved the water), R. Buckminster Fuller, Nicola Tesla, so many other.
Not rocket science. Why are we even building rockets while people starve and die from disease and war?

This was absolutely beautiful. Thanks for making me think (and feel guilty).
What are you doing this Friday night? Be looking for an email from me with the details, K?
