In the mountains

I arrived at a friend's cabin in the mountains today; it's cold and snowy, remote, and beautiful.

Tonight as the sun went down, just before we were to leave to meet another friend for dinner, a fox appeared and sat down on the deck outside the glass door and just looked at us. In fact, it lay down sort of like a cat would, turning its head upside-down to gaze at us to see what we were doing. Fox was charcoal black, and had a white medalion of fur on its chest. Fox seemed happy to be near us.

A yappy dog was barking outside the whole time, and when we opened the door to see if Fox wanted any food, we saw that it was another fox that was barking! Was it calling to our deck-Fox to come along, get a move on?

Don't know. Just glad he came, the spirit of camouflage, protector of travellers, bringer of fire to man.

Fox came. I'm hoping Badger will, too, or one of his brothers, Weasel or Wolverine.
